Italian Helichrysum, L'Immortelle

 

Italian Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum), also known as "Immortelle" (The Everlasting Flower), is easily recognized by its bright yellow blossoms that never fade, even after being picked.

 

Helichrysum offers a warm, distinctive scent with spicy and honey-like notes. This flower has a truly unique olfactory signature and holds a special place in both aromatic culture and natural cosmetics.

It is sometimes referred to as "Curry Provençal" (Provençal Curry), due to its use in certain culinary preparations, where only the fresh or dried leaves are used sparingly to flavor dishes (its aroma resembles curry; the leaves should be removed before serving).

 

Important : essential oil of helichrysum should never be used in cooking - it is extremely concentrated and potent.

 

Origin

 

Helichrysum naturally grows along the sunny coasts of the Mediterranean basin, from Southern Europe to Corsica and across Italy and Greece. It thrives in dry, rocky soils drenched in sunlight.

 

Its name comes from the ancient Greek words helios (sun) and chrysos (gold), referring to its golden flowers.

The Greeks and Romans used it to weave wreaths, perfume culinary creations and adorn temples.

 

Over the centuries, it has kept its unique aura and poetic nickname "L'immortelle", as its blooms retain their beauty long after being picked. Today, it is still prized for its richness and its iconic role in Mediterranean craftsmanship and culture.

 

Our Producers' Helichrysum from Provence

 

In Provence, our growers cultivate helichrysum with respect for the plant and the environment, using organic farming methods.

 

The flowers are harvested in the height of summer, when their fragrance is at its peak. They are then steam-distilled locally, producing two exceptional products cherished by lovers of all things natural and authentic :

 

 - Helichrysum essential oil, prized for its authenticity and unmatched distinctive aroma.

 - Helichrysum floral water, a refreshing distillate with a softer scent than the essential oil.
